PROTECT AND NURTURE

Two things set the Caribbean apart as a destination – our people and our environment. The Sandals and Beaches family of brands takes a passionate and trailblazing approach to protecting our precious surroundings and delicate ecosystems. We have set the standard for the entire region. We believe that it takes the entire Caribbean family to achieve true environmental awareness. Just as Earth Guard® is the umbrella approach for all our environmental work, our outreach efforts and the Sandals Foundation’s focus on environment play a significant and complementary role in achieving true sustainable tourism.

From reef cleaning sessions to interactive visits to schools by our Sesame Workshop characters and educational sessions with fishermen on environmentally friendly practices – we work with our communities to protect the Caribbean

Beach Clean Up Projects

Throughout the year and on world's Ocean Day, International Coastal Clean Up Day & World Environment Day, team members are seen working along side, fishermen and other community members cleaning beaches of garbage and debris.

Reef Building & Monitoring

Throughout our regions we work with international groups and the community to build, monitor and maintain coral reefs. We are seeking to have a lasting effect on the fish population by helping to provide protected breeding grounds.

Negril Recycling Center (Jamaica, Negril)

The Negril Recycling Center represents an environmental tool to assist in the diversion of waste going into landfills, oceans and freshwater habitats. An educational awareness and sensitivity initiative has also been devised which has significantly helped to mobilize the recycling effort in Negril as more people understand the need for it. The Sandals Foundation has pledged its commitment to see to the refurbishing and upgrading of infrastructure and equipment at the Center. One of our first endeavours will be to build a proper roadway/bridge to facilitate traffic of waste matter to the Center.

Marine Sanctuaries Project (Jamaica, Ocho Rios & Whitehouse)

The Sandals Foundation Marine Sanctuaries Project is aimed at creating protected marine areas throughout Jamaica and use these to educate school children and fishermen alike about the value of marine life preservation and sustainability. Currently the Sandals Foundation is preparing for the identification and designation of two such sanctuaries in both the Ocho Rios, St. Ann and Whitehouse, Westmoreland marine environments.

Environmental Awareness in our Communities (Caribbean Region)

Each year Sandals Resorts has marked International Earth Day by planting over 500 trees across the Caribbean to curb deforestation.   Additionally, International Coastal Clean-up Day is observed with beach and reef clean-up exercises across the region impacting over 20 communities each year clearing hundreds of bags of debris from the reefs and beaches.  Each session is ear-marked with sustainable educational talks to community representatives as to environment preservation.
